A USA singer/songwriter born in 1945 in Texas [actually it was 1948 in St. Louis, MO]. He produced albums e.g. by Delbert McClinton; joined Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Review tour in 1975, formed the Alpha Band in 1977 [actually 1976] with others from the tour for two [three] albums. Sporadic solo albums since then built a cult following in the USA. He has recently toured with Richard Thompson and Elvis Costello, and produced albums by Costello and Los Lobos. An idiosyncratic artist with a small but impressive body of work. [Donald Clarke, 24th August 1988]
